4/19/2010 March and April were the busiest months on record in years for the CDPB. We finished off our week long St. Patty’s run with a full slate of performances on the 17th. Thanks to everyone who came out (and in Dunedin, who braved the rains) and supported us in one of the band’s favorite events. The following Saturday, March 20th, both the Grade 3 and Grade 4 bands were on-hand to lead the afternoon practice for the ensuing Dunedin Military Tattoo. After several weeks of competing in the rain and cold, all bands and performers welcomed the warm and breezy weather that set the tone for an inspired show. Held in the festive Dunedin Stadium, the Tattoo was the first major event of the 44th Annual Highland Games and Festival, and the CDPB was proud to have an integral role in the color and pageantry of this exhibition. TEN bay area pipe bands, local highland dancers, and Celtic musicians were also on-hand to entertain the crowd on this crisp, spring evening. The Albany Marine Band from the Marine Corp Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia was the featured band this year and put on an impressive display of precision and finesse. Albany Marine Band; we salute you! ![]() The Albany Marine Band performing at the Dunedin Military Tattoo Just one, short week later, on Saturday, March 27th, the Grade 4 and Grade 3 bands were primed to compete in the 44th Annual Dunedin Highland Games in Highlander Park. The recent rains, again gave competitors and performers a scare, but a perfect morning of sunshine and cool temperatures brightened their spirits. Setting-up camp in the bands area, the CDPB went right to work, competing in solos and preparing for the afternoon’s events. As host band, the CDPB was on-tap for several performances and exhibitions, much to the delight of the sizeable crowd. Once the Honorary "Chief of the Day" for 2010, Provost Fergus Wood, of Stirling, Scotland was marched into place, and opening ceremonies were completed, the bands got down to business. Grade 4 Results from DHG First up was the CDPB Grade 4. They were pitted against 5 other bands from around the state in a Medley contest, and the final SUSPBA contest of the season. Playing well from the attack, the band placed a solid 2nd overall, finishing the year on a strong note. Congratulations to the Grade 4 band for another successful season! ![]() The Grade 4 band marching into competition Grade 3 Results from DHG Next up was the Grade 3 band in their contest of the day; The Whiskey Challenge. This Medley competition was open to any band competitors willing to put it all on the line. Not to be denied, the Grade 3 band stepped up their game, wowed the crowd, and pleased the judges on their way to a 1st place finish against their 5 competitors. CDPB Grade 3: rockin’ the medley again! Great job band! It was indeed a fine day to be “in the blue”. Pictures and video of the days’ activities are posted on our Multimedia page. Check it out! ![]() The Grade 3 band nailing the attack and taking 1st place! COMING ATTRACTIONS: On May 29th, The CDPB Grade 3 and 4 bands will be traveling to Greenville, South Carolina for the Greater Greenville Scottish Games and Highland Festival where we will compete against the best bands in the Southeastern United States. Watch the News Page for more developments on this, and other events with your City of Dunedin Pipe Band. 3/15/2010 February was a busy month for the CDPB. March, however, is really going to eclipse those events. Both the Grade 4 and Grade 3 bands spent the rest of February preparing for the Northeast Florida Scottish Games & Festival in Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, February 27th. The Grade 3 band polished their Competition Medley for their 1st competition of the season, while the Grade 4 band continued to refine their Quick March Medley (QMM) for their 2nd Southern United States Pipe Band Association (SUSPBA) competition. Both bands were hoping for clear, cool skies (after enduring 40 degree temperatures and constant rain at the Southeast Florida Scottish Festival and Highland Games in Ft Lauderdale) but it was not to be. The morning was spent in Inverness capes and under shelter as more 40 degree temperatures and rain tried to dampen their spirits. The bands pushed through the morning and early afternoon hours until band competition, when the weather finally broke. The Grade 4 band put on a solid performance and the judges awarded them First overall in their contest. Well done to PM Bonnie Hamilton and the group! The Grade 3 band put on an inspired performance for judges and spectators alike as they rocked the medley. Pictures and video of the days’ activities are posted on our Multimedia page. Check it out! ![]() The Grade 4 band marching into the circle for the QMM competition in Jacksonville Next up was the Zephyrhills Celtic Festival and Highland Games in Zephyrhills, FL on March 3, 2010. The Grade 4 band was excited to participate in their first Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA) event of the season. The weather started out crisp and clear and maintained this welcome change throughout the day. This was the first attempt of the season by the Grade 4 band to unveil its new competition medley and they were anxious to put it to the test. There was no scheduled Grade 3 contest, but that didn’t stop the Grade 3 band members from making the trip to participate, support, and help prepare the Grade 4 band for their contest. What a great team effort! The Grade 4 band took to the field with a solid performance, but it just wasn’t enough this day as they finished Fourth overall. Never discouraged, the band has set its sights on the Dunedin Highland Games in March. ![]() The combined Grade 3 and 4 drum corps warming up for massed bands The CDPB has a monster slate of St. Patrick’s Day gigs throughout the Tampa Bay area this year beginning on Saturday, March 13th and running up to and including Wednesday, March 17th. See our Schedule page for details. We will finish off our night in style back home in Dunedin, so come out and see us at one (or several) of our performances and support Florida’s premier pipe band. A great big “Thank You” to Patricia Gever and family of Duffy’s Tavern on Anna Maria Island. The CDPB marched in the St. Patty’s Day parade on the island on Sunday, March 14th and the Duffy’s staff was kind enough to shuttle us back to the parade start, invite us in for an afternoon of complimentary hospitality, and made us feel like family. What a reception! They even allowed us to put on an impromptu mini-concert. Duffy’s; the CDPB salutes you! The 44th Annual Dunedin Highland Games and Festival will be held throughout March and the CDPB will be out in force. Kicking off the events will be a performance on Friday March 19th, followed by the Tattoo on Saturday, March 20, and culminating with the Highland Games on Saturday, March 27th. See our Schedule page for additional details. The CDPB will be your Host Band for the festivities and want all of you to come out and support YOUR Dunedin Pipe Band. Stay tuned for the April Schedule as the CDPB has more events planned! We’ll be in the process of fine-tuning for the summer competition months. 2/14/2010 Yesterday, the City of Dunedin Pipe Band made the early morning trek over to the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL to audition for NBC's reality talent television show America's Got Talent. The band put together a 90 second audition medley and played magnificently! We’re all very excited about our performance, overwhelmed at everything the day entailed, and relieved that it went so well. We’re hoping to hear results within the next couple of weeks! Below are a few images to share from the day. We weren’t able to take pictures or video from inside the resort, but we wanted to post what we could so that you could share in our experience. Thanks again to everyone who came out in support of the City of Dunedin Pipe Band over the last couple of weeks! ![]() Pictured from left to right - President Jamie Everett, Commissioner Ron Barnette, P/M Sandy Keith, Commissioner Julie Ward Bujalski, Mayor Dave Eggers, and VP of Membership Marcus Tardif We’d like to thank Commissioner Julie Ward Bujalski, Commissioner Ron Barnette, and Mayor Dave Eggers for organizing a wonderful surprise greeting and breakfast for the band at the Dunedin Community Center.
